Why dont we work on 15th august?

I was wondering on my space time yesterday ( Independence day) about the need for taking a day off to celebrate this auspicious day. As per my reckoning, we would motivate ourself to work on that day just for the sake of our nation. We could involve in socially relevant causes on national holidays just to reinforce our belief in our nation. Only a very small percentage turned up to hoist the tri-colour which for me was shocking.
We should all try to spare a day and serve the nation so as to serve as a token of remembrance of the freedom that we have taken for granted!
I am going to do it come next day of national significance. Pls do the same

Activity Report for June 30th meet

Its absolute pride for me to present before you the report of the activity on June 30th at Islamiah Boys Higher Secondary School, Melvisharam.

The meet as you nay know was for the +2 students and the hall was brimming with them ( around 180 boys ). The meet was attended by all the senior staffs handling +2 classes and by the principal and the correspondent. I would like to really appreciate the attendance our our community members (around 14). It was spirited on our part to be present and show our unity for the cause and purpose for which we have
identified ourselves with.

The meet followed the agenda as we have discussed and finalized. The principal welcomed as warmly and then

1. Intro to the meet.. M Imdadullah --The backroom worker who had done many things for the meet..from projector to screens to registrations etc.,

2. About the community - Mohamed Imran K R ( i really didn't have a watch during the presentation..so i didn't know how much time i was actually taking for my presentation)
2. Industry Prospects and Opportunities - Muzafer A (Target) - ( Really wonderful...Mr Rizwanullah was highly recalling the facts and figures in his ppt...great statistical work)

3. Motivation - U 2 can do it - Mohamed Saalim K - ( He had to manage
time not used by me...excellent and very basic understandable pres...feeling sorry for him as he had to present to people who had taught him..should have been very nervous)

4. Vote of Thanks - Abdul Jabbar K - A fluent extempore speech with out any preplanning...

Overall it was a well attended meet..The general consensus is that the management have understood our motives but the students were not comfortable with our advanced statistics and other facts...I think our goals are met because if the management understands us , we could go into individual classes to explain to the students
I would like to once again thank all our community members who participated and all those who didn't but prayed for us.

you know you are in 2007 when...

i came across this bitter truth in one of the websites about how much we are controlled by technologies and how funny our lives have been in this digital era...

the story goes on this this...i ve also given the link to the origila post on thoughtmechanics.com

you know you are in 2007 when..

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven’t played Solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don’t have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn’t have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12 You’re reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn’t#9 on this list

AND NOW YOU ARE LAUGHING at yourself.

YOU REALLY KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2007 WHEN …
1. you try to change the TV channel using your cell phone keypad;

2. you feel your belt or purse vibrate even when someone else’s phone is ringing;

3. you trust your car GPS route finder more than what you can see through the windscreen;

4. you choose your friends according to the size of their MP3 music collection, and of course whether they are prepared to share them with you;

5. you try to warm up your take-out meal in your hotel room’s electronic safe;

6. you wish you could put your mother in law in hibernate mode, or yourself in log-off mode;

7. you try and press ‘page down’ when turning the page of the novel you are reading, and are surprised when it does not work;

8. with hundreds of zooty ring tones available, everyone selects the antique one;

9. your laptop picks up twenty wi-fi networks in an airport but none of them is free;

10. you have three mice on your desk and are not sure which machine they link to;

11. you spend more time obeying what your computer and emails tell you to do, than listening to what your manager tells you to do;

12. when there is a power outage there is no option but to go home, and even the home experience is limited;

13. you are really really sick and tired of messages ending my telling you to pass them on to your friends, but you obey anyway…

PS: Enjoy! But pls do consider that our lives dont be as miserable as it is projected....Use your HEAD!

Wireless Mesh Networks

If you wonder about technology as a boon or a bane, then you must not forget to take configuring the same into account. Well it takes a a helluva lot of a time to get something up and running. and dont even talk about wifi products, which for advanced installations need site planning channel management and stuff like that...

So where does this leaves us. How do i manage my community network...how do i extend the range of it. how do i get good throughput at all places.. how do i do this ...how do i do that...

the answer is simple...wireless mesh networks...just buy a few of these mesh access points..put them up strategically and connect one of them to the backbone internet.power them up and do very basic config...and lo! you have your entire neighbourhood unwired...

Mesh network is based on the 802.11s standard. its still evolving..the primary motivation is to have a self-configuring , self-healing network that takes care of itself. The addition of new mesh poinys is effortless..just plug them up and they also become a part of the network and extend the range..if one mesh point is down ( for power failure or something) the others intelligently learn about that and they reconfigure the network effectively...

over all its fantastic...i will describe some products later (insha allah)...watch out..

Indexing with Xapian and Omega

Continuing my sojourn to index my file system and having a web-based application to search, i came across Xapian. Xapian is an Open Source Search Engine Library, released under the GPL. Xapian is a highly adaptable toolkit which allows developers to easily add advanced indexing and search facilities to their own applications. It supports the Probabilistic Information Retrieval model and also supports a rich set of boolean query operators.

If you are looking for much simplistic stuff to use Xapian, you could use Omega, an application that is built upon Xapian.

Xapian's versatility allows you to extend Omega to meet your needs as they grow. You can download all of them here.

The installation is very easy and documented here. A complete tutorial on using Omega is available here. The only thing you need to worry about is the space available in your HDD to store the indexes.

The relevant searching is good and the default cgi application of omega is effieient enough for a basic search appliance. Make sure that your files to be indexed are in the http path ( use virtual hosts) so that you can follow the search results when you click on them

File system indexing

I was looking for ways to index an entire array of websites to create a repository. the idea behind is that people can download and dump their favourite websites like tldp.orf ( The Linux Documentation Project), wikipedia etc., and create an index out of them that facilitates searching among these repositories.

wget is a small linux utility that allows you to recursively dump websites into your hard drive. For the indexing purpose, we can use Zebra which is a high-performance, general-purpose structured text indexing and retrieval engine.
Zebra also supports large databases (more than ten gigabytes of data, tens of millions of records). you can download Zebra at http://ftp.indexdata.dk/pub/zebra/idzebra-2.0.12.tar.gz and install the same after installing dependencies like yaz etc.,

Zebra documenattion is available at http://www.indexdata.dk/zebra/doc/ read specifically the sections on Administering zebra. you can do different types of indexing ( see zebra.cfg options). For indexing your dumped websites, you should use the indexing with File Record IDs which will also support incremental updates to your repository.

You can access data stored in Zebra using a variety of
Index Data tools (eg. YAZ and PHP/YAZ) as well as commercial and freeware Z39.50 clients and toolkits.

khana khazana review

i dined yesterday at the khana khazana restaurant at kilpauk with my cousins. its a fairly good restarant. the ambient atmosphere was good and it was all manned by people who were looking typically chinese. they could actually have been north-easteners. anyways the food was good, especially the mughlai and handi murg were mouth-watering. plus the menu had loads of chinese stuff.

i recommed this restaurant to people who like mughlai and chinese and also have lots of time and money to spare
